The Municipal Art Gallery: the Collection

The collection of paintings belonging to the Municipal Authority, was put together between the 19th and 20th century, after having been accommodated in various buildings after its first exhibition in 1883, set out in some rooms inside the Malatesta Library (Biblioteca Malatestiana). The collection has been on permanent exhibition inside the ex-monastery of St. Blaise since 1984.

Paintings, acquired after the Napoleonic suppression and Italian Unity, have been joined by others, most of which come from Charity Congregations and private collections.

The works on show, cover a period of time which stretches from the 15th century to contemporary times, thus offering, albeit with some obvious gaps, a panorama of local artistic production enhanced by the presence of some important pieces of national relevance.

The central setting (Room 1) contains the oldest painting (XV-XVII centuries); the room to the left (Room 2) houses XVIII-XIX century works dand the room to the right (room 3), named after Luigi Veronesi, offers contemporary pieces, put together thanks to bequests made by artists thenselvwes and also some recent acquisitions.
