Mario Bocchini

Cesena, 1927 - Cesena, 1999

After attending the art academy "Accademia" in Ravenna for a certain period, the artist decided to study directly in the open air, drawing the ordinary peopele and in so doing entered the neo-realist current.

In 1960 he moved to Milan where he attended Mario Sironi's workshop and three years later he completed his formation in the course of long journeys. Bocchini used painting to get to know, see, analyse society and depict the concept of disagregation in a modern society urth his series of "wrecks".

He donated a prezious collection of ethnographies to his home town which paved the way in 1974 for the creation of the "Museo della Civiltà Contadina" which is still staged inside the fortress of the Rocca Malatestiana.
