Vittorio Matteo Corcos

Livorno, 1859 - Firenze, 1933

After attending the Academy of Art in Florence, Corcos moved to Naples with his friend Anselmo Gianfanti to the studio of Domenico Morelli.

In 1880, on Morelli's suggestion Corcos, leaves for Paris to complete his artistic formation. During the Parisian sojourn he exhibited at the 1881 and 1886 Salons.

On his return to Italy, he settled in Florence and specialising in portrait painting he led a very busy artistic activity. He privileged aristocratic commissions as well as those that came from the world of culture, the protagonists of the worldly and bourgeoise life, rendered with an easy touch and bright colours.

In 1901 he also approached writing with a collection of short stories "Mademoiselle Le Prince".

In 1904 Corcos was requested in Lisbon, Portugal and Germany to paint the respective sovereigns. The production during the last years of his life testimony his fascinating but, by then representative art.
