Giovan Francesco Cipper, known as Todeschini

Feldkirch (Austria), 1664 - Milano, 1736

As there is no certain documentation on the early years of the painter, we can only suppose that initially he dedicated himself to carrying out still-lifes, in order to later specialise in the kind of scenes that made him famous for their originality.

Influenced by Nordic painters, Todeschini, in fact re-proposed subjects that had been amply used during the 17th century, although he did avoid using melancholic or dramatic figures. A typical example of this production is contained in the Gallery, Uomo col gatto, is characterised by smiling figures.
