Francesco Raibolini known as Francia

Bologna, 1450 c. - 1517

Recorded in various sources of documentation as being a very gifted goldsmith, Francia, was one of the major exponents of Bolognese figurative art at the end of the 15th and beginning of 16th century. He devoted himself to painting from the mid-eighties in the 15th century, carrying out works in which both Flemish and Peruginian influences, as well as flashes of the Tuscan and Veneto artistic area can be appreciated.

Towards the beginning of the 16th century, Francia approaches the classicism of Raffaello, which will be repeatedly re-proposed in the last stages of his activity.

In the Basilica della Madonna del Monte we can see the panel Presentazione di Gesù al tempio e purificazione della Vergine.
