Signed and dated 1958 in the bottom right hard corner, the painting is part of the "Carte" series, which the artist carried out in 1958.
There is a distinct intention to illude the observer, making him believe he is standing in front of some crumpled paper instead of a normal canvas. This singular effect was reached by the artist through the use of chiaro-scuro, the use of brown in all its shades and also through and effective games of shadows which gives the idea of the creases in the crumpled paper.
