The work, signed and dated '54 in the upper right hand part of the picture, depicts a female form labourer, mezzo busto and belongs to the neo realist phase begun around 1949. The subject refers to the socials theme of rural life, a top examined by the artist in the period of the war.
The strokes, firm and spread widwly, define the very simple form and the outlines by using the colour black. The canvas has a great luminosity, created by the white drapes, yellow hat and dress worn by the woman.
