Anonymous (17th cenrtury) - Oil on canvas; cm 113 x 89
The painting came from the old chapel in the Rocca Malatestiana and it represents Saint Francis embracing the cross, his eyes looking up to the sky.
The saint wears a brown cowl and he is represented holding an open book, a skull and the stigmata.
The atmosphere is dark and gloomy, only the face of the saint and his hand are lit up by an unreal light.
The space is indefinite, the scene possibly set at dusk.
