Il Genio della Vita; Il Genio della Morte

Anonimous painter from Forlì (?) (First half of 18th century) - Oil on canvas; cm 55 x 75

Il Genio della Vita Il Genio della Morte

The author is unknown, but probably came from the school of Felice Cignani.

The two paintings represent The genius of life and The genius of death.

In the first one the genius holds a rose in his hands and an hour-glass and near him there is a lighted candle, all symbols of life and time that passes by. In the second one there is a skull, a quiver and the genius holds a cross in his hand, symbols of war and death, together with a broken bow and quiver containing some arrows.
