San Gregorio Magno e ritratto di committente

Painter from Romagna (Girolamo Marchesi from Cotignola ?) (Cotignola, 1490 (?) - Bologna, 1559 (?)) - Oils on wood; cm 42,5 x 33, cm 43 x 33

San Gregorio Magno ritratto di committente

The two fragments belong to an altar piece painting that was probably too big and so was divided into two parts.

We do not have the exact name of the author, but recent studies (1980) suggest the name of Girolamo Marchesi da Cotignola (1490-1559).

The two figures, depicted as half bust, have been identified as San Gregorio Magno and the person who commissioned the painting.
