The painting represents a single figure, Atanasio Musachi, a bishop, as is demonstrated by the inscription.
Atanasio is represented in a central position and his dress is typical of bishops: red cape, headdress, crucifix round his neck. This\face is full of particulars and his expression is strong, his gaze grave and intense, is directed downwards.
The background is dark and there is only one luminous colour, the red of the bishop's cloak.
