Emilio Conti (Barga, Lucca, 1900 - Providence, U.S.A. 1982) - Oil on canvas;
cm 72 x 100
The canvas is signed below right and can be dated to around 1931,during the artist's sojourn in Cesena. The painting depicts a religious theme: a procession which is crossing a bridge, women dressed in black can be seen, the wearing red and white, carry the processional cross.
The landscape, composed by the river and the small village, is rendered with synthetic painting of it, using colours in different shades, both hot and cold. A great light comes from the village and is reflected on the waters of the river, on its banks and on the extreme left side of the painting.
