Mario Morigi

Cesena 1904 - Cesena 1978

Self-thought artist Morigi opens an art studio called "Cenacolo della Porziuncola", in the Portaccia quarter, which becomes the meeting place for friends Gianetto Malmerendi and Gino Conti, too. After the war the studio moves to Porta Fiume, and the artist continues painting, sculpting and producing faience. His own style had toward adhered to realism but was moving change: the preferred themes became portraits of family members and friends, country scenes, such as then haystack paintings. From the 60s he moved on from reality to imagination. The Morigi bequest is an important collection and enhancened to the Civic Gallery and contains paintings which range from 1930s to 1970s, some sculpture and a series of charicatures in polychromic terracotta.
