Giovanni Omiccioli

Roma, 1901 - 1975

Giovanni Omiccioli is a self-thought painter who met Scipione in 1928 and was advised by him to devote himself full time to the art. In 1933 he become friends with Mafai and entered into contact with the artists in the Scuola Romana (Roman School). He inaugurated the Galleria Apollo in Rome with his own personal in 1937, which was followed by many other exhibition during the fourties. He devote himself to the cycle of Orti, up to 1945, a series of paintings depicting suburban areas, the ghetto, and refuges for evacues, in a ,marked expressionist style. In the period following the war his attention turned to homeles and poor in the capital. He began travelling in Italy, turning to other themes, Vercelli landscapes, Sicilia fisher, Calabrian and Marches landscapes. His art will always be remember for its figurative themes veined with expressionism.
