Calvario

Giovanni Omiccioli (Roma, 1901 - 1975) - Olio su tela; cm 45 x 60

Morellini foundation

The work represents a landscapes, a street winding upuords, an its sides, houses and a church with the inscription Limite Confinante. Above a cemetery overlook by a mountain. The painting is signed in the bottom right hand of the scene.

The short brush stroke and the deforming sign confer an enchanted atmosphere to the landscape and respond to the expressionist style to which the artist was attached for his entire artistic career.

The grey sky, houses and mountain are characterized by cold, dark colours. The cemetery in the centre of the painting being white, stands in its importance.
