Keilhau Eberhard, known as Monsù Bernardo

Helsingør, 1624 - Roma, 1687

After an apprenticeship in Denmark, the painter moved to Amsterdam where he came into contact with Rembrandt's art. His presence in Italy, is documented by his wanderings from 1651 until his death.

The influences of the artistic culture in Veneto and Lombardy were fundamental in his formation, in particular the works of Domenico Fetti, Bernardo Strozzi and Francesco Maffei. Most of his work is composed by genre scenes, which were a great success, carried out as they were, with great virtuosity.

His Santa Caterina d'Alessandria is present in the Gallery.
