Santa Caterina d'Alessandria

Keilhau Eberhard, known as Monsù Bernardo (Helsingør, 1624 - Roma, 1687) - Oil on canvas; cm 43 x 33

Santa Caterina d'Alessandria

The painting, situated in Cesena's Art Gallery since 1895, had been initially indicated as a girl who reads a book but actually the image represents Saint Catherine of Alexandria.

We haven't enough information about the painter's production so we can't establish exactly the date of the picture: if it is a genre painting or a painting of private devotion; and this doubt is confirmed by the fact that some elements such as the coral necklace, the book and the ruffled hair are particularly detailed.
