Bologna, 1529 - 1592
His sojourn, from 1555 to 1560, in Rome, when he lodged with Taddeo Zuccari, was fundamental in his formation.
On his return to Bologna, the artist distinguished himself above all with genre and portrait painting, elaborating a recurring compositive pattern in which the figure portrayed, gaze intent on the spectator, leans on a table whilst displaying the objects which consent to his identification.
The broadlines of this style can be clearly seen in portrait of a young musician (Camillo Zanotti ?)
, exhibited in the Gallery.
