Scipione Sacco

Sogliano sul Rubicone, 1495 - Cesena, 1558

The existence of Scipione Sacco was marked by difficult moments: during his youth he was exiled together with his family, whilst his last years were tormented by financial problems which caused him to accept craftwork too.

There are echoes of 15th century and Raffaello in his works, as well as mannerism, which we can perceive in the sober and measured definition and the statuary solidity of the figures, on one part and on the other the violence in the gestures and the settings.

The first famed work of the artist, a panel Cristo in cattedra e Santi, can be seen in the Gallery.
