Autoritratto

Fortunato Teodorani (Cesena, 1880 - 1960) - Oil on cardboard; cm 49 x 31

Teodorani, famous in his time for sacred and profane mural decoration, successfully portrays himself in the realist style which he remained faithful to all his life.

The painting, signed and dated 1933, in the bottom right part, depicts a middle-aged man, half length elegantly dressed, smoking a cigar.

The background is undefined, determined by various shades of blue, so much so that they appear green in the right hand part of the picture, which make the subject stand out. The light appears from the left. Facial expression is strong and decided.
