Fortunato Teodorani

Cesena, 1888 - 1960

Deaf and dumb since the age of four, Teodorani was sent to Florence to the Istituto Gualandi in an attempt to treat is complaint. As he demonstrated a great inclination in Florence, for design and colour, he began his studies in art, and later graduated.

On his return to Cesena he opened a workshop in which he created painting, faience, wrought-iron objects and carved wood. He became a well-known and much appreciated artist in Romagna, thanks to his sacred and profane mural decorations, also for his paintings known as "Tavole Romagnole", a series of still lives depicting characteristic foods from own local territory.

All his life Teodorani remained faithful to his descriptive realism and was never influenced by the innovative currents which followed in the course of the years.
