Colline di Cesena

Giannetto Malmerendi (Faenza, 1893 - Cesena, 1968) - Oil on canvas; cm 75 x 98

The canvas depicts a scene from the Cesena hillside. The observer's eye penetrates the landscape, rich in detail, among the stretches of cultivated fields and rich vegetation, as far as the horizon where the sea joins up with the sky.

The landscape is rendered through shrieking colours, clear-cut and contrasting. The painting signed in the bottom right part is dated 1951, belongs to the realist phase which the painter whit thought after his futurist youth.
