Anselmo Gianfanti (Montiano, 1857
- Cesena, 1903) - Olio su tela; cm 40 x 31
The painting can be dated around 1885, the face of a little girl is depicted in a brown background.
The roughly painted technique renders the reflections on her dress vibrant and the theatrical effect learnt from Morelli is softened to give great elegance to the girl. The dres is enhanced by abulky white scarp and a bright, shiny earing. The expression of the face of the young girl appears serious and sad, due to the position of the mounth and the closed eyes.
The austerity of the scene furthermore also derives from the very dark, marked colours.
