The sketches, painted in 1771, represent various scenes from the Old and New Testament, commissioned by Benedictines monks for the Basilica della Madonna del Monte of Cesena.
The most important among these is the Coronation of the Virgin
. It represents the Virgin seated in the clouds with some angels, and above the holy trinity, crowning her.
The other painting is the Assumption of the Virgin
. She is surrounded by a formation of angels, and her gaze and her arms directed upward.
