Antonio Pio (Cesena, 1809 - London, 1871) - Oil on canvas; cm 61 x 50
An early work by Antonio Pio, Cesena painter who studied at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, and was later active in Paris and London, cities in which he found success, above all with his decorative works.
As can be clearly seen by the stick and the knapsack lying on the rock, the young man in the foreground is a shepherd, caught in a moment of rest under the shade of tall trees. Far away, in the background, his flock of sheep and a town plunged in light.
