Giovan Battista Salvi, known as Sassoferrato (Sassoferrato, 1609 - Roma, 1685) - Oil on canvas; cm 73 x 60
This painting represents the Virgin three-quarter length, in the act of holding the Child in her arms and she embraces him with great sweetness and maternal affection.
The two subjects are set in an unreal, dark and not well defined space, just like in the other works by the painter that are contained in the Gallery. It can be inferred that his style was based on the great masters of the end of the 15th Century and the whole of the Renaissance.
